Program Overview

The afterschool program provides a variety of courses to improve students’ reading and writing skills, second-language proficiency, speech fluency, and cognitive ability. Aiming to help talented students gain educational resources, we strive to work with students and parents to prepare for the G.A.T.E. exam by using materials such as CogAT, OLSAT, NNAT, and MAP. In addition, the instructors will also integrate entry level verbal questions from G. A.T. E. into reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary class.

Targeted Audiences

The afterschool program is suitable for elementary students. Students who are in grade 1 to grade 6 are welcome to attend the program.

Course Format

All courses at Maz Learning Center Afterschool Program will be offered online synchronously via Zoom. All students have access to google classroom for syllabi, course materials, assignments, and feedbacks from instructors. Zoom meeting information and google classroom access instructions will be distributed in a separate file.

All courses will be offered in small groups based on students’ levels and grades. Specifically, public speaking will have a group of 8 to 10 students given the speaker's need to present in front of an audience. The Spanish class is for beginning and intermediate level students, 6 to 8 students will be in one class. The chess class will have a group of 6 to 8 students to compete against each other as well as learning as a group. Reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary will have a class of 4 to 6 students. G.A.T.E. involves intensive training of verbal and quantitative practices and we will keep the ratio of instructors and students as 1:3 to 1:4.

Tentative Class Schedule

Maz Learning Center Afterschool Program begins on August 22, 2020, and ends on December 12, 2020. Classes will not be offered on national holidays (09/07/2020 Labor Day, 11/11/2020 Veterans Day). Students will also have fall recess during Thanksgiving week, and classes will not be offered between November 26 to November 29, 2020. National holidays and fall recess will be announced one week ahead.
